Both Bali and Thailand are perennial favourites for Indian travellers. Both offer tropical beauty, rich culture, excellent food, and great value. But they're very different experiences. Here's our honest comparison after sending thousands of Indian travellers to both.
Visa: Which is Easier?
- Bali (Indonesia): Visa on Arrival for Indians, ₹2,500 approx. 30 days
- Thailand: Visa-free for Indians from November 2023, 30 days
- Winner: Tie — both easy
Cost Comparison
- Bali: 5N6D package approx ₹45,000–70,000 per person
- Thailand: 5N6D package approx ₹40,000–65,000 per person
- Winner: Thailand (slightly cheaper, especially Phuket vs Bali luxury)
Food for Indian Palates
Thailand is significantly better for vegetarian Indians. Most Thai cuisine is naturally adaptable. Indian restaurants are everywhere in Bangkok and Phuket. Bali has excellent vegetarian cafes in Ubud, but overall Thai food is more familiar and has less pork/seafood dominance.
Culture & Experiences
Bali wins for spiritual depth — Hindu temples, rice terrace ceremonies, Balinese art, and healing retreats. Thailand wins for variety — Bangkok's temples and nightlife, Chiang Mai's culture, Phuket's beaches, and island hopping between Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi, and Krabi.
Our Verdict
Choose Bali if you want: spiritual experiences, rice terraces, romantic luxury resorts, photography, yoga & wellness. Choose Thailand if you want: nightlife, island hopping, budget travel, diverse landscapes, and a big-city experience (Bangkok). Both are excellent. We love both.
